Regenerative Medicine

Regenerative medicine is an approach to veterinary medicine that aims to repair and regenerate damaged tissue in horses.

Regenerative medicine has shown promise in several equine conditions, including tendon and ligament injuries, osteoarthritis, bone injuries and wounds. These advanced therapies can be used for joint problems and other orthopedic injuries and degenerative conditions in horses.

Stem cells have the ability to differentiate and develop into specific cell types, or regenerative cells that release specific growth factors and anti-inflammatory mediators. Stem cells activate and promote tissue regeneration, accelerate the healing process and have a positive effect on influencing degenerative processes such as osteoarthritis.

Orthobiological treatments such as PRP and ACP/IRAP are used to stimulate tissue repair, reduce inflammation and improve the natural healing processes in the horse's body. Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) is obtained from the horse's own blood, which is processed to concentrate platelets and growth factors. When injected into damaged tissue, PRP stimulates cell proliferation and accelerates healing.

Orthobiologics also include other innovative approaches such as conditioned serum from the horse's own blood known as Autologous Conditioned Serum (ACS/IRAP). The horse's blood is processed in a special way into a serum that is rich in specific anti-inflammatory molecules and growth factors. This serum is then injected into the affected area to promote healing and tissue regeneration.
